Marine metalwork and machining for Soldiers Point
Soldiers Point has the marina, and the marina changes what kind of work comes out of the suburb.
We’re under 10 minutes away at Salamander Bay.
Bigger boats, different problems
Marina-berthed boats are generally bigger than trailer boats, they stay in the water, and they’re on shore power and antifoul rather than a driveway. Different metal problems follow:
Running gear. Boats that live in the water eat cutlass bearings, shafts and stern gear. Shaft straightening, re-sleeving, cutlass bearing housings bored and sleeved, keyways and tapers, custom bronze bushes — that’s squarely our machine shop work, not fabrication.
Stainless deck gear. Rails, stanchions, boarding ladders, davit brackets, rocket launchers. Anything that’s been in salt water permanently for ten years and is starting to show pitting rather than surface staining.
Pontoon and berth hardware. Cleats and their backing plates, ladders, hand rails, gangway parts, pile brackets. Galvanised or 316, depending on the job.
Corrosion at dissimilar metals. Permanently wet boats show galvanic corrosion sooner. If a fitting is eating the metal around it, that’s a design problem, not just a repair — we’ll tell you what caused it.
For the marina and the trades
If you run or work at the marina, we’re a local option for parts you’d otherwise have to order in or send to Newcastle. Repeat brackets, replacement hardware, one-offs for a boat that’s mid-job and holding up a berth.
Getting the part to us
Anything that comes off the boat can come to us. For anything that can’t come off, we’ll come and measure it up — Soldiers Point is ten minutes away, so that is no trouble.
