Get a Quote on Your Part

No drawing? Doesn’t matter. Send what you have and we will price it.

A worn gear, the kind of part people send in to be remade

Most of the jobs that come through this workshop start with a photo on a phone or a busted part in a shopping bag. You do not need CAD files, engineering drawings or the right terminology. You need to show us the part and tell us what it has to do.

Send us any one of these

1. A drawing. PDF, DXF, DWG, or a scan of an old paper print. If it has dimensions on it, we can quote from it. If some dimensions are missing, we will ring and ask.

2. A 3D file. STEP (.stp /.step) is ideal. Fusion 360, IGES, Parasolid and STL also work. A STEP file is the fastest possible route to a price, because we can go straight to CAM from it.

3. A photo with a tape measure next to it. Lay a tape or steel rule alongside the part and take two or three photos from different angles — top, side, and one showing any threads, keyways or bores. Add the critical sizes if you can measure them: shaft diameters, bore sizes, overall length, thread size. This is genuinely enough to quote a huge number of jobs.

4. The broken part itself. The best option of the lot. Post it to 12 George Road, Salamander Bay NSW 2317, or drop it in Monday to Friday. We will measure it, model it, and make you a new one — better than the original if the original failed for a reason.

5. A sketch. On graph paper, on the back of a docket, on a beer coaster. If you know what you want the part to do, we will do the engineering.

Also tell us

  • How many. One-off, a handful, or a repeat batch every month. Quantity changes the price per part more than anything else.
  • Material, if you have a preference — 4140, tool steel, 316 stainless, aluminium. If you do not know, tell us where the part goes and what it has to survive. Salt water and heavy load point to different materials.
  • When you need it. A real date. If it is a machine down and the line is stopped, say so up front — we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
  • What went wrong, if it is a replacement. A part that snapped is a part that was undersized, wrong material, or wrongly heat-treated. Knowing why it broke means the new one lasts longer.
  • Any finish or treatment — plating, anodising, heat treatment, black oxide. We arrange heat treatment, black oxide, zinc plating, hot-dip galvanising, powder coating, anodising and passivation through the specialists we use every week.

What happens next

  1. We look at it. Todd reviews the drawing, photo or part personally. Not a call centre, not a portal.
  2. We ring you if something is unclear. Missing dimension, unrealistic tolerance, a feature that will triple the price for no benefit — we will pick it up at quote stage, not halfway through the job.
  3. You get a price and a date. In writing. If there is a cheaper way to make the same part work, we will tell you what it is.
  4. You say go. We order material, program it, and put it in the schedule.
  5. You get told if anything changes. Material delays and tooling problems happen. You will hear about it early.

How fast will you hear back?

Simple parts: a price the same day. Anything complex: within two business days. If it is going to take longer because we are waiting on a material price, we will tell you when to expect it.

If your machine is down and you need an answer now, ring 0478 790 631 rather than emailing. A phone call gets a same-day answer.

What we quote on

One-off parts. Repairs and remakes. Small batches. Ongoing production runs. Design and CAD work on its own. Sheet metal designed, cut and folded. Router and 3D-printed jigs, fixtures and prototypes.

If you are ordering a repeat production batch, say so — the pricing is different, and better, when we can schedule it into our overnight running. See production machining.

What makes a quote slower

Being straight with you about this saves everyone time:

  • Photos with nothing in them for scale
  • “Same as last time” when we have never made it before
  • A drawing with a tolerance of ±0.005mm on a feature that does not need it
  • No quantity given
  • Chasing a decision-maker who is on leave

Pick whichever is easiest. Phone number is the thing that matters most — we will ring you back.

  • How many, and when you need them
  • A drawing, a CAD file, or a photo with a tape measure next to it
  • Material, if you know it
